List of Upcoming Things and Brief Cool News

Hey all,

I had planned to write something today or at least put a picture up, but I ended up going skiing for most of the day and bumped my knee more severely than I originally thought. Nothing too serious, but it’s a little tough for me to move around. Thus, when I ate dinner and tried to clean dishes, I realized I was better when sitting, eating, and watching Mad Men…so I ended up watching like 3-4 episodes without noticing. My bad.

Adorama is taking pre-orders for the Fujifilm X100 that I thought was so cool! It’s more than I wished it would be and I’m trying to save up until my taxes are settled, but cool nonetheless. It’s coming soon, people!

In news for this blog, I think I’ll put photos up this week. Trying at least one every other day. I’ll also probably write something about aperture size. Nothing too technical, but just some examples. I’d like to taste/review another wine soon, but I’m not sure what will go with the chili I will be making soon. Oh well.

Quick Update

Hi everyone,

Still a little sick. MUCH better than how I was on Friday, but still have a cough, somewhat sore throat, and a bit of a stuffy nose. Friday was terrible; almost fainted while doing dishes and watching faster action gave me headaches. Not sure what was wrong, didn’t have a fever, was eating food (well soup) and drinking fluids all day, just felt incredibly weak and light headed while sneezing and coughing every like minute.

Anyway, since there’s some additional downtime before recording the tasting, I went and got more lighting stuff. Well, video lighting stuff. All cheap stuff, woot.

Next camera purchase is a new tripod as the one I’ve got isn’t very stable…legs seem ok, if heavy, the mounting plate/head mechanism isn’t working out. It was a Davis & Sanford kit that I bought for like $75 a few years ago? The cork liner is loose and I never liked it much once I got heavier lenses. Also, the 3-way pan-tilt head doesn’t like locking down when I want it to. Tends to drift.

After the tripod I was going to get some more speedlites, but the speeding tickets cost a crap ton so I’m on budget mode again.

Of course, these purchases would be spread out over a few months, not days.

Voted today! Unfortunately, none of the candidates for the major Massachusetts positions were great. Each one had some big, glaring problem or two that made me not want to vote for them…in the end, I voted mostly Democrat, despite being a Republican. And like 1-2 Independents. Really just didn’t want Tea Partiers to gain too much power…or hippies. Unfortunately, it sounds like the Tea Party movement was more powerful than I wish it was =(.

I’m all for small government/lower government interaction, but I also like when the Federal government steps up when necessary (FDA, etc)…actually, screw it.

I fucking hate how bad the Republican party has become. It isn’t politics to them anymore. It’s a fucking game and every single one of them is simultaneously a sore winner, sore loser, arrogant cock, and terrified coward. Pretty much like most Audi and Mercedes drivers I’ve seen lately.

Think I’ll go to bed early and wake up early again. Actually got a lot of work done this morning before lunch/class and stuff. Maybe I can repeat.

Caught a cold

Testing Windows Live Writer

Hi everyone,

I have a more substantial post incoming, but I heard good reviews on Windows Live Writer and decided to try it with a test post. Maybe I’ll do a review or something of it later, but I think I’ve got more than enough blog stuff to put up.

Banana Bread

No real update today, was stuck in lab too long, had to eat, then had LOTS of dishes to do..plus I made banana bread! Nom.

Plungerhead Zinfandel Tasting

Couple things:

1. The fact that Cornell hockey was going to play Quinnipiac the day I made this video should tell you how old it is/how backlogged/how busy i got.

2. It’s pronounced “Lo-die”, not “Lo-dee”

3. The wine oddly gained back all of the “missing components” in the 2nd glass….and 3rd…and 4th. i couldn’t figure out why only the 1st glass seemed oxidized.

4. Up next: either Finger Lakes wines or more Layer Cake! If you have any preferences, let me know.

Hey all,

I’ve been neglecting this blog again, haha. I have a lot of ideas but I never seem to act on them…

1. Look for a review of some photo gear as well as a lens rental service.

2. Look for some incoming tasting notes, including my thoughts on Connecticut wine

3. Photos

Lastly, people have been asking me a lot of questions about photography and cameras and such…and one of my pet peeves is repeating myself…and I need practice teaching…So I will start making Photography 101 articles covering some basic concepts, ideas, and most importantly vocabulary. I’ll start outlining my thoughts and try to see if I can incorporate some history into the “lectures”. Who knows? Maybe these articles will be fun to read! I’m hoping at least to make them somewhat helpful for people just getting into photography.

But for now I’m quite sleepy.
